Testimonials
“Brenda” came to us as an EWOG client in desperate need of clothing while she was living in a half-way house for substance abuse. She asked if we needed any volunteers. We took her in as a volunteer. During the time she worked with us, we learned that she had a very hard life. She had been repeatedly sexually abused by a close family member as a youth, which caused her to shut off her emotions. She began dancing at topless clubs in Tucson. She soon became the main act, and the club moved her to another city to open a club there. While there, she had a child, and soon after began experimenting with crack-cocaine. Very quickly she was addicted and now as addictions go, she needed “bigger money” to pay for the drug habit. Her parents took her son away from her because of the addiction, so she moved to Las Vegas where she became a “high-end” call girl servicing the clients in the big hotels, like Pretty Woman, although this is not a pretty story. Her addiction became more and more demanding, and was caught in this lifestyle for several years. One day the people who sold her drugs turned on her, and put some kind of needle in her arm, stole all her belongings, and left her in a hotel room for dead. It was only by the grace of God that she was found and rushed to the hospital. While living with her family, her addictions cropped up in a different way. This time it was alcohol. Finally in desperation her family kicked out of their home because of her unacceptable behavior. Once again she began drinking. Homeless, hopeless and powerless, she humbled herself and looked in the phone book to find a treatment center. She admitted herself, and once again went through Hades and back to detoxify her body from all this chemical abuse. Afterwards not able to return to her family, she went to the halfway house.
We worked with her for months, loved on her and ministered to her each time she would come to volunteer. She began to heal and blossom, and soon she became a great asset to Eagles Wings of Grace. Our clients loved her and would ask for her by name.
She was giving back what we had been giving to her. Over time, she regained her dignity and her personal goal was to get her son back from her parents and live sober and independently. After working with us for over 9 months, her dream became a reality. Though we were deeply grieved to see her go, her child was returned, and she moved with her son to Norman Oklahoma, where they now have a new beautiful life. They are in church, and last week we received a call from her, telling us with joy of her new job and how her son is getting a little accent, and says yes with two syllables. They love Oklahoma, and we love her!..oh, and did I mention she is engaged to a good Christian man?
